Start Carving Ep 5: Unboxing and Carving a Bird

I bought a carving kit from Beavercraft sometime in Dec 2023 and just got around to unboxing it. This is not a paid sponsorship.

In the video, I started with the harder wood of the 2 blanks provided in the kit. After spending around an hour and a half just to whittle down the blank to the first dimensions, I decided to switch to the softer wood to finish out the carving.

I stated I would reprofile the ground edge to 20. That means 20 degrees on the edge to the grind line. I have found a 25 degree edge is not quite fine enough an edge for me. As a beginner to carving will have to figure out what level of sharpness vs durability he/she is comfortable with. I haven't done that yet and did not do it on this unboxing.
