On 8 June, 2023, a Class 9 student in Takrohi area of Lucknow was raped, attacked with a hammer and strangled to death by Shahid, a bike mechanic of her neighborhood.

A HinduPost team and local Hindu activists met with Sohani Kanojia's parents, who gave us consent to disclose their daughter's name and spoke with us about the pain of losing their eldest daughter and their fight for justice in the tortuous Indian legal system. The parents, who belong to an SC community, iron clothes for a living, and want nothing less than death penalty for their daughter's killer. The accused even tried to prove himself juvenile by getting a forged school-leaving certificate, but thankfully that lie was caught out in court and an age verification test showed he was an adult at the time of the crime.

Anyway, it is imperative that even juveniles in such heinous crimes be tried as adults....and citizen anger is rising at perceived inability of our justice system to provide speedy and deterrent justice in such cases which are exploding all over the nation.

Despite the much-improved law & order situation in UP under CM Yogi, we also heard about systemic issues within Indian policing which point to the urgent need for nationwide police reform. about a disorganised Hindu society in stark contrast to highly regimented 'minority', and about Sangh karyakartas often being the only ones standing with such families.

Shockingly, the family is still being threatened by the accused Shahid's brother Sahil, which is something we hope will be addressed by authorities at the earliest.

8 जून, 2023 को लखनऊ के तकरोही इलाके में कक्षा 9 की एक छात्रा के साथ उसके पड़ोस के बाइक मैकेनिक शाहिद ने बलात्कार किया, हथौड़े से हमला किया और गला दबाकर हत्या कर दी।

हिंदूपोस्ट टीम और स्थानीय हिंदू कार्यकर्ताओं ने सोहनी कनौजिया के माता-पिता से मुलाकात की, जिन्होंने हमें अपनी बेटी के नाम का खुलासा करने की सहमति दी और हमसे अपनी सबसे बड़ी बेटी को खोने के दर्द और कठिन भारतीय कानूनी प्रणाली में न्याय के लिए उनकी लड़ाई के बारे में बात की। माता-पिता, जो एससी समुदाय से हैं, आजीविका के लिए कपड़े इस्त्री करते हैं, और अपनी बेटी के हत्यारे के लिए मृत्युदंड से कम कुछ भी नहीं चाहते हैं। आरोपी ने जाली स्कूल छोड़ने का प्रमाणपत्र बनवाकर खुद को किशोर साबित करने की भी कोशिश की, लेकिन शुक्र है कि अदालत में उसका झूठ पकड़ लिया गया और उम्र सत्यापन परीक्षण से पता चला कि अपराध के समय वह वयस्क था।

वैसे भी, यह जरूरी है कि ऐसे जघन्य अपराधों में किशोरों पर भी वयस्कों की तरह मुकदमा चलाया जाए...और ऐसे मामलों में त्वरित और निवारक न्याय प्रदान करने में हमारी न्याय प्रणाली की कथित अक्षमता पर नागरिकों का गुस्सा बढ़ रहा है, जो पूरे देश में फैल रहा है।

सीएम योगी के नेतृत्व में यूपी में कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति में काफी सुधार होने के बावजूद, हमने भारतीय पुलिसिंग के भीतर प्रणालीगत मुद्दों के बारे में भी सुना है जो राष्ट्रव्यापी पुलिस सुधार की तत्काल आवश्यकता की ओर इशारा करते हैं। अत्यधिक संगठित 'अल्पसंख्यक' के विपरीत एक अव्यवस्थित हिंदू समाज के बारे में, और संघ कार्यकर्ताओं के बारे में जो अक्सर ऐसे परिवारों के साथ खड़े होते हैं।

चौंकाने वाली बात यह है कि आरोपी शाहिद के भाई साहिल द्वारा परिवार को अभी भी धमकी दी जा रही है, हमें उम्मीद है कि अधिकारी जल्द से जल्द इस पर ध्यान देंगे।
