Wow!! This video may be 3 months too soon, but I just HAD to show you now how lava rock is a great medium when orchids are in dire straits and need to be rescued. After failing to make these orchids perform successfully in leca and semi hydro, I have been showing you how I use lava rock to rescue orchids that had no root sytem left. The leca having destroyed the orchid root systems for reasons that pertain to evaporative cooling and me experimenting with different leca sizes, the loss of these orchids was imminent. So, enter lava rock to demonstrate that most orchids will be rescued when using lava rock. I wish I could have waited longer to show you new growths, but I am heading into 3 months of difficult conditions for my orchids, and it may be that these orchids will not make it through them, for other reasons that will have nothing to do with the medium being lava rock or the set up.
