On Wednesday, 4,000 Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga, Tennessee, begin voting in a closely watched election on whether to organize with the United Auto Workers. At Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the UAW had already tried in 2014. However, the employees voted against representation by the union. It also tried at Mercedes-Benz in Alabama in recent years - to no avail. This could now change. After all, the wages of the UAW's new collective agreements significantly exceed the salaries of the non-unionized plants. In the latter, employees start with salaries in the upper 10-dollar range and end at around 25 dollars an hour. The new UAW agreement, on the other hand, reaches the 40-dollar mark.
