It was the students and their universities who were the first to stand up against the Vietnam war. It was the students and their universities who were the first to denounce the aparheid in South Africa while the US government, just like it does in the case of Palestine, did not recognize it for many years. We must honor the moral clarity and bravery of our young population and reward them by giving them some of the congressional jobs currently occupied by relics, stuck in a cold war McCarthy mentality to the detriment of the whole world. The congress interrogations of university leaders is not only another stain on our history but it is also a reminder that fascism is alive and well.
