Zero's companion in her quest is a dragon named Mikhail, who assists her in battle.

Gameplay combines elements of hack-and-slash combat with RPG elements, such as leveling up and acquiring new weapons. Players control Zero and Mikhail as they fight various enemies and bosses. The game has multiple endings, which can be unlocked through replaying the game and making different choices.

The game's story, while compelling, is known for its dark themes and mature content. Drakengard 3 received mixed reviews due to its combat system and performance issues, but its narrative and character development were praised by some fans of the series.
