God warns Noah that He will bring a great flood because the earth was filled with violence and corruption, and He decides to judge the world for its sin. This impending rain is significant because it marks a dramatic, unprecedented act of God’s judgment against sin and His fulfillment of what He warned Noah to prepare for by building the ark. Noah’s obedience in building the ark in advance shows his faith in God’s word about what was “not yet seen,” including the coming flood and the associated rainfall.
