How are the Mighty Fallen! (Responding to Brethren’s Misfortune)

Text: 2Samuel 1

Objective: that the brethren know how and do respond properly
in times the brethren fall

Intro:
Define – mighty, spiritual, fall
Examples: died, backslide, weak, disciplined/punished, erring in doctrine

Things to Realize and how to respond:
1. Accept it as reality – v.1
2. Understand that people will have different takes on the event – vv. 2-15
a. David and his men - mourn
b. Young man – Amalekite – killed and reported the matter
i. Reporters may have agenda
3. It’s ok to investigate – know the details – vv. 3-5
a. Know the difference between gossiping and knowing the details of the matter
4. We need to know and take appropriate actions –v.15
a. though it might be inconvenient
5. Sympathize accordingly – vv.17-18
a. Even Saul was David’s enemy
6. Be discreet in who and what to tell – v.20
a. Avoid gossip
b. Avoid unnecessary dishonoring
7. Learn well from the unfortunate Event – vv. 19-27
a. Teach others what should we learn/takeout from it.
Message/conclusion:
Let us know how and do respond properly in times when the brethren fall
