“It amazes me what passes for influence in this generation. Even the label influencer has been hijacked for use in a purely commercially measurable way. Looking back on my life, some of my greatest influencers were known by less than a couple dozen people. Some of the influencers in my life are of world acclaim, both historical and present. Yet it would seem that they were mostly determined to bring about social and personal transformation. Notoriety was the end result not the predetermined goal. Building commercially viable influence is formulaic. You can literally pay to become a ‘best selling author’ or top celebrity. This influence buying service is a cottage industry on its own. It is just as easy to gain 15 minutes of fame and notoriety through criminal behavior. Its is also very popular to peddle influence in halls of political power. What you do to wield that influence after acquiring it is the real test of character and authority.”
