California Fast Food - Minimum Wage? Maximum Stupid!

In today’s video we discuss the increase in the minimum wage that California just implemented on April 1st and the imact that it is having on the industry.
Who would have thought that artificially increasing the cost of doing business would result in cutting of expenses on behalf of the business? Well there are a few major expenses for a business and labor is one of the largest. You also have the cost of the facility/utilities, and the cost of food/inputs. With inflation causing the expenses everywhere else in the business to increase at the same time as increasing the cost of labor a business has two options to maintain profitability: Lower expenses or Raise Prices!
Many stores are increasing prices but then you have an almost parity between fast food and real sit-down restaurants. With the difference in quality between these two, fast-food will not survive this in the long term as we all know a burger at Chili’s is much more delicious than a double quarter pounder at McDonald’s.
If you don’t want to increase your prices, lower the amount of human labor you have. We have all ordered from kiosks at this point and we will see many more of these as well as drive thru ordering systems being offered with AI support and cloud connectivity, mark my words!
