Leading with Empathy

As Northouse (2022) points out, people are searching for authentic leaders – people who are genuine and truthful. Being as honest and as transparent as possible in a situation like this is crucial if you are going to maintain your integrity as a leader and help the organization maintain its integrity going forward. Northouse (2022) also asserts that authentic leaders have the ability to know what their values are, and how they treat others is based on these understood internal values. Northouse (2022) goes on to point out that self-discipline is another quality authentic leaders possess. Not only does self-discipline make leaders predictable, because people know what to expect from them and as such are comfortable communicating with them, but self-disciplined leaders also have the ability to keep a cool head, to not become agitated, and to remain constant in stressful situations.
