They did everything from making anime to running hospitals and turning them into extortion centers. They also "disappeared" critics and eventually dabbled in chemical warfare. Their leader was Shoko Asahara, and the guy had big dreams, like Saturday morning cartoon villain world domination big. Eventually, the cult took a sinister turn when they committed the Tokyo subway gas attack of 1995. This was where five men, with umbrellas in hand, boarded a train and spread terror through the use of toxic gas, leaving a trail of chaos in their wake. Kidnappings, even attempts on the Japanese royal family, were all in the cult's wheelhouse. Stranger still, the cult somehow still exists.
