Highest Geomagnetic Storm Rating, Dozens Of Networks Down, Coronal Mass Ejection Number 7 On The Way

"Three of the six CMEs (coronal mass ejections) struck today. We hit Level 5 Storm Condition (the highest geomagnetic storm rating). There are literally dozens of regional network and system outages -- everything from problems with Amazon web service, the Target website went down, gaming networks are having trouble like crazy, Pinterest, SnapChat -- like I said, literally dozens. This is pretty much what we expected from this. I would expect this to continue. We have three more blasts on the way and folks, just minutes ago, an X 5.8 -- the largest solar flare yet -- and the data . . . tells us that number 7 is on the way..."

Level 3: Strong storm, with a Kp index of 5-6
Level 4: Severe storm, with a Kp index of 7-8
Level 5: Extreme storm, with a Kp index of 9 or higher

(Kp index is a measure of the magnetic field's disturbance)
