Questioning and doubting all existing beliefs

As adults, we build our lives upon a great edifice of beliefs built up gradually over our lives and they can not only do us and others harm, but they can get in the way of spiritual experience. What marks out those who keep an open mind, as opposed to those who desperately try to ignore the evidence, because it threatens the very foundations of their beliefs, is that history shows us that the the weight of evidence always wins. And the dogmatic have an almost impossible time adjusting to actual evidence than those who kept an open mind from the start.
