Bernard Moitessier and the interconnectedness of souls

Bernard Moitessier is one of the most famous round the world lone yachtsmen there has been. He was a French national, born and raised in Vietnam in the days when it was a French colony. At 25, Moitessier left Vietnam to lead the life of a ‘sea-gypsy’, even surviving two catastrophic shipwrecks. In 1968, Moitessier participated in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the first single handed round the world yacht race. With the fastest circumnavigation time, Moitessier was the likely winner, but he elected to continue on to Tahiti and not return to the start line in England. Few understood at the time that it was because his values were grounded in a deep almost mystic spirituality. Moitessier said "I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth, ... in this nation of wind, light, and peace, there is no other ruler besides the sea". Although the examples we have used describes him being able to communicate telepathically with living humans, he was in tune with Nature in general. "Behind the huts, I can see again the tombs of those who had left us ... That was where the other world began, the one that enchanted me. That world, equally full of gods and dragons".
