Angry Swan Protects His Cygnets + Coypu Carrot Thief Strikes

Today we're on the hunt for a pair of mute swans with very young cygnets, and a coypu rumored to be currently living in the same lake. The male swan becomes aggressive, protecting his young with an intimidating approach. However as you've probably come to expect, our heroine takes it in her stride. A coypu or nutria is a bit like a beaver, but its actually a type of large rat. Classified for a long time as the only member of the family Myocastoridae, Myocastor is now included within Echimyidae, the family of the spiny rats.

Nutria AKA Coypu can transmit rabies and a disease called leptospirosis, which is is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. Without treatment, Leptospirosis can lead to kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, respiratory distress, and even death.

Please do not approach swans, particularly with their young nearby. Swans are large, powerful and potentially aggressive birds. They're capable of attacking you if they feel you're a threat, especially around April to June.
