📖 HOW I READ NUTRITION LABELS 🏷️
Despite being the most significant text on the label, calories are not the first thing I look at. I start with the allergens line, which typically reveals things I avoid, such as SOY. Then, I would read the ingredients to look for SEED OILS, DYES, and SUGARS. Then, I would examine the sugar, protein, and fat content. I will finally note the calories, but it is only sometimes a deal breaker, especially when you factor in the SERVING SIZE.
Note that every food you eat has a purpose. You don’t need loads of protein and fat in everything you eat. If you eat bread, expect it to be carbohydrate-dominant. You do not need to engineer all food to make it high in protein because then you risk modifying it with too many other chemicals to mimic the original food. That is the main problem with all the vegan meats out there.
