Automatic writing and drawing

Automatic writing or psychography is writing produced whilst in a trance or semi-hypnotised condition. Automatic drawings are drawings done the same way. The person does not control the writing implement or its movement across the paper - because they are not conscious or are only semi-conscious. The phenomenon has been ‘explained’ by saying it could be telepathy (with a living or "dead" person); or possession by a wandering spirit. Automatic writing and the use of a ouija board are very similar, but both are looked on as potentially dangerous.
