Our Journey on The Loneliest Road in America!

During the first week of April, 2024, we decided to take a trip we’ve been wanting to take for a long time. A road trip on “The Loneliest Road in America!” Dubbed such by Life Magazine in 1986, The Loneliest Road is the stretch of Hwy. 50, aka The Lincoln Highway, that runs East-West across the Silver State. That is, the state of Nevada.
Because of limited time, we decided to fly to Salt Lake City, UT where we would rent a car in order to take the road trip of a lifetime. The drive from SLC to the Nevada border, where The Loneliest Road in America begins, was a stunning display of beauty within itself but the real adventure begins when we reached the border.
Travel with us to places where time has stood still since the mid-1800’s, where the Pony Express galloped, Stagecoaches traversed through western towns and treacherous & dangerous passageways, steam trains roared across tracks laid by pure strength & might without the use of modern equipment. Where architects & craftsmen took pride in the buildings they created for family, business, & worship that would honor the people who entered in and stand the test of time. Where prospectors travelled hundreds and even thousands of miles in hopes of striking it rich. And where hard-working, hard-drinking, rough-necked miners came to work laboriously in dark and dangerous tunnels that ran directly beneath where they lived, sometimes as deep as 3000 ft, to detonate rocks with sticks of dynamite and crush those rocks with pure grit in order to extract silver, gold, and other metals and gemstones from the earth.
To a place where nature shows her stunning beauty in majestic display. The Loneliest Road In America is long stretches of 2 lanes that connects small towns of grandeur that stand quietly and pridefully beneath snow capped mountains. And a place where Paiutes and Shoshone left their marks that have stood the test of time for as long as 7000 years!
