A Spiritual Interpretation of the Creepiest Poem Ever Written: In the Desert, S. Crane

Stephen Crane is best remembered for The Red Badge of Courage, but his poem "In the Desert" is possibly my favorite of his works. Enduringly creepy and unnerving, it also conceals a deep look into human nature and, I further contend, into the descent of human consciousness.
