The Symbolism of Poppies

A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae and there are a lot of different types. But if we home in on those that are labelled Papaver, we start to see some very interesting symbolism emerging, particularly that related to the red field or corn poppy and the opium poppy.
Poppies are above all else a symbol of Remembrance and are used as a commemorative symbol, worn to commemorate soldiers who have died in times of war, but there is more.
