Israel abandons full-scale invasion of Rafah | LBC

Israel has 'abandoned' its plan for a full-scale invasion of Rafah after pressure from the United States.

It follows months of warnings from Israel that it would launch a major operation in the Gaza region in a bid to wipe out Hamas.

Israel has insisted an invasion of Rafah is necessary in order to defeat Hamas, though the US has said it would prefer 'targeted' operations in the region.

That wish now appears to have been met, with a US official confirming a scaled-down approach will now be taken.

“It’s fair to say, I think, the Israelis have updated their plans. They’ve incorporated many of the concerns that we have expressed,” the US official told reporters.
