The Symbolism of the Moth

A Moth is symbolically a person on the Spiritual Path but a very talented one, in that their natural habitat is the Air and they are largely free of the Earth being able to symbolically ‘fly’ in the Air [or higher].

In contrast with a Butterfly, the Moth is 'of the night' it is a ‘black shaman’. Black shamans are NOT EVIL, they are the people who help to combat evil – fight Blackness. This is why they flutter to the Flame of Light, they are greatly attracted by the Light and may in the end die [like Jesus] in order to combat evil.

In many ways they are more heroic than Light workers. When a Moth is attracted by a Flame, it is ascending spiritually and may suffer the Dark Night of the Soul [also known as Purgatory or Rebirth.
