Gator Greatness

Gary Shintaku was my Leader for most of my time in Kare Youth League. He coached me in 3rd-5th grade on the Gators and taught me more lessons than I can count. His attention to detail and ability to challenge out teams at such a young age absolutely prepared us all for bigger things down the road. Mr Shintaku played in the famous 1977 CIF Championship against Montclair Prep that is nearly unanimous as the greatest Rio Hondo Prep game ever played at Kare Field. We discuss his teammates from that incredible era of RHP Football and why the great tradition has stood the test of time. Gary Shintaku is one of many coaches I had in Kare Youth League that sparked my passion for Rio. Hundreds of kids from KYL over the years have gone on to play at RHP themselves after watching their heroes from the bleachers with wide eyes and eager anticipation.
