The Southfield Veterans Commission recognizes a 101-year-old Marine for Memorial Day.

The commission awarded Butler Martin a plaque for "dedicated service to his country". The award was part of the city's annual Memorial Day ceremony which celebrated the Montford Point Marines, the first group of African Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mayor Ken Siver ran the ceremony featuring a keynote speech from veteran Ramon Rogers.
