Morgan Lerette is the Author of Guns, Girls, and Greed: I was a Blackwater Mercenary in Iraq. He joined the Air Force in 1999 and participated in the Ground Offensive in Iraq in 2003. From 2004 - 2005, he was a private military contractor (PMC) for Blackwater – the most notorious contractor in Iraq. Later he became an Army intelligence officer and served in Iraq in 2009 – 2010. Upon leaving the service he attended the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy obtaining a Master of International Business degree in International Banking and Finance.

Morgan’s first deployment was to Oman in 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2003 he deployed to Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq. He provided security for the first aerial supply route in Iraq at Tillil Air Base which was the staging point for the Jessica Lynch rescue.

Morgan joined Blackwater in 2004 graduating in the fourth class of the Worldwide Personal Protection Services (WPPS) program in Moyock, NC. He was promptly sent to Iraq to protect diplomats in an active combat zone as they strived to rebuild the country until December 2005.

Morgan participated in hundreds of combat missions while in Iraq as a gunner, driver, tactical commander, and team leader protecting diplomats and Other Government Agency (OGA) members. He participated in protecting the Regime Crimes Liaison Office tasked with gathering evidence later used in the trials of Saddam Hussein and Chemical Ali

Upon returning stateside in December 2005, he finished his undergraduate degree and joined the Army ROTC. He achieved a 4.0 GPA getting a B.S. in Criminal Justice and finished in the top four percent of over 5000 cadets in his graduating class. He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 2007 in the Army Intelligence Corps and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA as a Multifunctional Team Leader – leading a team of Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Signal Intelligence (SIGINT), and Counter Intelligence (CI) to Iraq in 2009.

Upon leaving the Army as a Captain, Morgan received a Master of International Banking and Finance in 2013 at Tufts University and moved into Corporate-America. Fun Fact: Morgan ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 as part of the Tufts Marathon Team and finished just prior to the bombing.

He wrote his memoir Guns, Girls, and Greed: I was a Blackwater Mercenary in Iraq in 2024 to shed light on how PMC’s operated in Iraq as the US Government began to outsource combat operations to private companies. He’s been candid about the positive and negative impacts subcontracting traditional military operations such as protection and training local forces in combat tactics.
