Lienz, a town in Tyrol, Austria, is the administrative center of the Lienz district (East Tyrol), spanning 16 km² with a population of 11,990 as of January 1, 2023. As the seventh largest city in Tyrol, Lienz serves as the economic, cultural, and social hub of East Tyrol, strategically located at the confluence of the Isel and Drau rivers.

Historically significant, Lienz was influenced by the Roman-era neighboring Aguntum, and in the Middle Ages, it became the seat of the Counts of Gorizia. United with Tyrol in 1500 under Maximilian I, it later saw ownership by the Wolkenstein-Rodenegg family and the Hall ladies' convent.

Modern development peaked with the Puster Valley Railway's arrival in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, further bolstered by South Tyrolean settlement during WWII and the 1939 merger with Patriasdorf.
