South Africa election - ANC forced to seekcoalition partners after 30 years in power |BBC News

In South Africa the National African Congress - theparty once led by Nelson Mandela - has had its worstelection result since it came to power with the collapseof Apartheid three decades ago.

It heralds the start of a new political era in which theANC will have to seek coalition partners and share power.

Among the reasons for the ANC losing politicalsupport is the high cost of living, unemployment andcrime. There's also anger at widespread corruption.

Many black South Africans are asking why the end ofwhite-minority rule has not led to a transformation intheir economic conditions and living standards.
