“Epic Showdown: Lioness vs. Giraffe in a Fight for Survival”

While still learning to walk, a newborn giraffe found itself in a life-and-death struggle against a hungry lioness. The giraffe had only the protection of its mother during this harrowing encounter. The incredible footage, captured by wildlife photographer Don Heyneke and safari consultant Rustom Framjee, unfolded in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy within the Masai Mara in Kenya1.

Birth and Pursuit: Just 30 minutes after being born, the giraffe calf was already attempting to walk. However, a hungry lioness and a hyena showed immediate interest in the vulnerable newborn. The hyenas eventually lost interest, leaving only the lioness to pursue the giraffe and her calf.
