The margay, also known as the tree ocelot, is a small, wild cat found in the rainforests of Central and South America. They have beautiful yellowish-brown fur that has dark spots and rosettes. Their large night vision eyes, powerful limbs, and retractive claws help them to efficiently maneuver up and down trees. Besides using their keen eyesight, the solitary margay has exceptional hearing to hunt when they stalk and pounce with lightning speed. In fact, they’re able to leap up to eight feet vertically and twelve feet horizontally.

The quiet margay has flexible ankle joints that allows them to rotate their hind feet 180 degrees which enables them to climb headfirst down trees while their long tails provide extra balance and stability as they walk on branches. They like to mark their territories with scents to deter intruders and have an opportunistic diet of eggs, insects, small mammals, reptiles, and grasses.

The cunning margay may be small, but they have amazing abilities to survive in the wild. They’re symbols of agility, focus, and stealth. Call on their spirit for better ways to adapt to your environment. Visit our mammal playlist to see other animals and thank you for subscribing.
