China has accused the UK's intelligence agency of recruiting a couple as spies.

According to China's Ministry of State Security, the twostate department employees were successfullyrecruited after Ml6 operatives exploited the man's "strong desire for money".

China did not reveal how it uncovered the caseinvolving Mr Wang and Ms Zhou, saying only that itcame after a "thorough investigation".

The case is still under investigation and Chineseofficials did not say if the couple would be charged.

The BBC has contacted the UK authorities for a response.
