When Supe first meets the Dark Knight, things don't go well. Both saw the other as somewhat of a threat to humanity. In this flashback, Supe is weakened by kryptonite and Bats has enhanced his strength with a suit specifically designed to take down the alien threat. It's hard to pick sides here.
