11. Real Men Cry

On September 29, 1997 I was listening to the radio and they were advertising a mens meeting that would soon be taking place called “Promise Keepers”.
I prayed about going. I felt the need and just wanted to be around REAL Christian MEN who loved the Lord with all of their hearts. It was something that I had longed for from the beginning of my walk with God.

I desired and longed for mentorship, real mentorship, from real men.
Then a new song began to formulate in my mind. I had actually started to think about the idea for a song that would compliment this type of event only a few days prior, which was something that I thought was interesting.
In my minds’ eye, I had imagined writing a song that would be sung during the worship part of the meetings.

The idea for the song was just something that I thought would be a good “contribution” to the cause.
Then, all the sudden, there it was… they were announcing this “mens meeting”.

So, that evening, as I was praying about it, I was reading in John 11:35 where He says these two simple words; “Jesus wept.”
As I pondered those two simple words, the words to this song, which totally caught me by surprise, were given to me…

FROM THE LIE, TO LIBERTY, THROUGH TRUTH!!!

When God first put it into my heart to actually record the music that He’d been giving me, He simultaneously impressed these words into my heart:
They’re from the latter part of Matthew 10:8, where He says;
"Freely you have received, freely give."
So I freely share this music with everyone.
