Exploring Rustic Log Shelter Day Use Group Picnic Site @ Tollgate Campground! | Mount Hood Oregon 4K

I did this on May 13, 2024, prior to the season opening (Memorial Day, later in May). Please note that any disheveled-ness of the Campground is purely due to the timing of this not having been cleared for the opening of the season yet.

Tollgate Campground is nestled in old growth Mount Hood National Forest and without a doubt is in the top tier of Campgrounds in Mount Hood National Forest! There are 14 Campsites - with several on the ZigZag River "Outer" side right up against the Shoreline of GORGEOUS ZigZag River!

There is also a Rustic Log Shelter Group Picnic Site (Reservable @ Recreation.gov, $44 Per Day as of 2024) and 5 Day Use Picnic Sites (Reservable @ Recreation.gov, $10 Per Day as of 2024). The Rustic Log Shelter Group Picnic Site is pretty epic as far as its construction quality, however it is right next to the main Highway so you never escape the road noise. The 5 Day Use Picnic Sites, keeping it real, in my humble opinion were pretty low quality and I would not recommend any of them as a destination in themselves. Contrast that with some of the Campsites, particularly those up against ZigZag River, which are truly world class quality and a genuine destination.
