DOJ Targets Surgeon Who Blew the Whistle on Secret Transgender Surgeries on Kids

Dr. Eithan Haim, a relatively unknown surgeon, has been indicted by the Department of Justice for exposing Texas Children’s Hospital's covert transgender surgeries and treatments on minors. Haim faces four felony charges for allegedly violating a medical-records law. Last year, he anonymously provided evidence to conservative journalist Christopher Rufo, showing the hospital continued its transgender program despite claims of compliance with Governor Greg Abbott’s 2022 directive against such interventions.

The Houston-based hospital stopped its transgender medical practices after a state law banning “gender-affirming” treatments for minors took effect in September 2023. Recently, U.S. marshals informed Haim of his indictment and summoned him to court for violating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Haim and his legal team are set to appear in court on June 17.

Haim’s attorney, Marcella Burke, expressed confidence in the trial outcome. In January, Haim publicly identified himself as the whistleblower to protect against DOJ and Department of Health and Human Services retaliation. He discovered he was a criminal investigation target for leaking medical records and is accused of not redacting sensitive patient information. Haim defended his actions, stating he exposed corruption to avoid burdening future generations.

Rufo, who reviewed the records before publishing, denies any personal patient information was exposed. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tina Ansari, leading the investigation, claims Haim had no right to share minors' medical records, although she did not mention the documents were redacted and compliant with HIPAA for exposing medical misconduct.

Requests for comment from Haim and Ansari’s office were not immediately answered.
