Using data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), we can observe trends and prevalence rates of schizophrenia over the past three decades. The global prevalence of schizophrenia has remained relatively stable from 1990 to 2020, with approximately 20 million people affected worldwide each year. This stability suggests that while the condition remains a significant public health issue, the rate of new cases has not seen substantial increases or decreases. Schizophrenia affects men and women at similar rates, though men often experience an earlier onset of the disorder. There are regional differences in the prevalence and burden of schizophrenia. Higher prevalence rates are often reported in urban areas compared to rural ones, which may be due to better diagnostic facilities, higher stress levels, and more significant social challenges in urban settings.<
