Decyphering Overlays

The idea of an overlay is a basic concept, known in its application of photo editing and cartography, also known as working with maps. However, the idea takes on a different nature, when used by those that practice mimicry. Copying the environment in order to blend into it, like a chameleon, often requires a method of distraction. This is where the tactic of applying overlays comes into the picture; applied to such things as languages, culture, history, and locations, among other things.
