How Grey whales are an example of interspecies forgiveness and outreach even after decades of whaling which stopped in the 70s. Grey whales were hunted at their breeding grounds, they were known to be veracious, with a legacy that people were afraid of them due to how dangerous they were when protecting their young. In the 70s are after decades when the whaling had stopped the grey whales mothers made contact with the fishermen. They brought their babies close to the boats and the fisherman realized this was an invitation, they were initiating contact with their babies. Even with harpoon scars as the reminder of their past, the whales are an example of interspecies forgiveness and outreach, making connection. They are now known as the friendly whales of Baja. The ancestral memory is carried and yet their conscious choice is to engage with humans differently, with awareness of their history. The whale families are continuing to engage. Opening our awareness that rocks, trees, plants all have spirit, soul, essence, even when we label them as dead. The lessons humanity can learn from communicating with all beings that we share life with on this planet. We have forgotten how to ask other species what we need to know.
