Julie Marcus: Conspiring to Hide Corruption

Do elected officials sometimes utilize powers they have not been given? Do they feel a sense of superiority to the public whom they were elected to serve? Do they hide behind a desk, office, or position and either ignorantly or by a superior order or a sense of power refuse to follow the law regarding public records requests?

It appears that Julie Marcus's Office is trying to hide important information on election fraud by charging high fees for public record requests. One, over $30,000**. Another, over $300,000***. These requests were made to view election records for the purpose of identifying election crimes and fraud, so why the exorbitant fees?

Unless the public record has been exempted or specifically made confidential by law or the Florida Constitution, agencies must — in good faith — provide access to public records.*

In contrast, the Florida Constitution does not set out a definition of “public records,” although it guarantees the right to inspect or copy “any public record” unless exempted by the Florida Constitution.*

Public records include: “. . . all documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, photographs, films, sound recordings, data processing software, or other material, regardless of the physical form, characteristics, or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency.”
