Vaccines are one of the most important public health interventions we have. Here's why they're so crucial:

Disease prevention: Vaccines train your body's immune system to recognize and fight off specific infections. This significantly reduces your risk of getting the disease, and can even prevent serious complications or death.
Herd immunity: When a high percentage of the population is vaccinated, it creates herd immunity, which indirectly protects those who are unable to get vaccinated, like infants or people with weakened immune systems.
Eradicating diseases: Smallpox has been eradicated, and polio is on the verge of being eliminated, thanks largely to widespread vaccination.
Cost-effective: Vaccines are much cheaper than treating the diseases they prevent.
Vaccines are safe and effective, and they have dramatically improved public health around the world.
