Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 4
J. Sebastian Bach (1680-1750) is universally acclaimed as one of the of the most prolific composers and virtuosic keyboard players of the Baroque Era.
Baroque music generally presents an exuberant yet controlled style of musical expression as evidenced in the Brandenburg concerti.
Ironically (or maybe not so ironically)the Baroque era is conventionally dated from 1600 to 1750, the year of Bach's death.
The Brandenburg concerti are a collection of six instrumental works in the concerto musical form. Typically, a single or several soloists in an ensemble called a concertino play "against" a larger orchestral group called a ripieno creating
interesting musical contrasts and fusions.
Bach was able to merge the unique musical sensibilities of the Italian (lyrical and melodic), French (dance-like tempo) and German (orderly with precision) national musical styles into his creations.
The six Brandenburg concerti are considered some of the best musical works of the Western musical tradition. Please enjoy a sample of these six concerti.
