Lessons From the Bible Story of King David and Bathsheba - God Forgives But Sin has consequences which remain. We are going to go over the bible story of King David and Bathsheba in this video. One of the biggest ministries scandals in the bible was the story of King David and Bathsheba story. He was involved with adultery with Bathsheba and had a baby out of wedlock. Then he had to murder Bathsheba's husbands to cover up for his sin. King David's sin had a rippling effect on his whole family and his sins continued throughout his family.
This video will be a David and Bathsheba sermon. We often gloss over this story saying "David was forgiven by God and he was restored to ministry. Although David wasn’t a Pastor or priest. David was a King a governmental authority. In the NT there are requirements for those in leadership and they must be above reproach. But David wholeheartedly repented. David was completely and utterly broken over his sin. David wrote one of the great Psalms in history Psalm 51 to talk about his brokenness publicly. And by the time you are done with Psalm 51, David's message is very clear “ladies and gentlemen- don’t try this at home”. This was costly. This was mess. This was painful.
King David and Bathsheba were forgiven of his sin by God. David was restored to ministry. But the part you don’t hear anyone talk about is the consequences that followed David to his death bed. David's family was completely broken by his sin. David's sexual sins were passed down. David lost a child over his sin. David son raped his daughter. And then his brother killed his son. David's son tried to take his kingdom and lead a rebellion against his fathers. David's son had sex with his wives on the rooftops in the city of David for all to witness. This rebellion lead to his sons death. On David death bed his sons were fighting for his kingdom. There was strife in David's household all his days. It looked like the most dysfunctional family you could find any place. David was forgiven by God. David was restored to ministry. But David was broken over his sin and repented. But the consequences of David sins were not removed. He lived with the consequences of his sin all the days of his life. And his family paid heavily for his sins. We often do not take sin seriously in the Evangelical churches because we believe God will just forgive us if we mess up. And he will forgive us. But we must not forget that sin will have consequences that last that cause pain for us and others. This is a reminder not to get involved with sin to begin with. A great King David bible story!
