Americans Have to Be Called Americans 🇺🇸

Citizens of the United States of America have few relevant options for a name for themselves. The name of their country, just like the old name for the United States of Colombia, is outrageously generic; but it is the only name that they have and they were the first to use it. No other country used the name "America" in their formal name when the USA decided to use it. First come, first served as they say. It is the same for the current state of Mexico claiming "Mexican" when at least six other current countries could have laid claim to it as well. And Colombia was claimed first by Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama before anyone else could claim that term which applies equally to all of the Americans PLUS all of the Caribbean! But Colombia got it, because someone had to.

I didn't think of it in time for the video, but in English "Native American" refers to indigenous peoples who lived in modern day America before the colonials arrived. The indigenous peoples of the rest of the Americas are not referred to by this name. So even Native American is a specific reference to modern day America.
