It depends on the level of fancy, the wifi adapter I am using is a wavilink ac1900 wifi adapter and it is running on realtek driver 8814au with the operating system linux mint. I am testing at various distances from my car which is the red gmc terrain. There are wireless adapters that are more fancy than this but at 210 yards at half signal strength is nothing to sneeze at for a usb wifi adapter.
If you are using this in your house, it will allow for greater signal strength if you don't want to run range extenders all over the place or use wired networking. The software for Mac OS and windows come encoded on the adapter and will install automatically. Mileage results will vary with linux.
