Loss Of Identity | My Mind's Failing Me Right Now

Physical and cognitive injury. I remember what it's like to lose basic human freedoms. When you no longer have the intelligence to look after yourself. There's a loss of identity. It challenged me to dig deep into who I was as a person in any given moment. Outside the superficial, beyond the movements, past the physical disability. When your cognitive intellect has been damaged. What was the depth of my substance, what was it to be human. When you lose the basic freedoms many in western culture take for granted you ironically gain new insight and new freedoms. Its like other areas of your humanity rise to the occasion and bubble to the surface. Human instinct and survival kick in and the world around you becomes foreign. I will never be able to forget these experiences, it leaves me torn between two worlds, I no longer feel at home in either.

Experiencing humanity through a physical and cognitive injury. Walk inside the recovery process. In the silence, the small unheard moments, time shows wounds, and the simple connections to nature, those we love that reflect a deeper role than the superficial scars we all carry. Inside a larger world that sometimes makes us feel left behind on the lonely roads of recovery.

When you realize how much is outside our control it allows you to let go, to be released. No longer a slave to conformities or anxieties of the past. It gives you strength of character, compassion for those around you, a deep joyful appreciation of life and the world. It makes the future exciting! I can never go back.. but I wouldn't have it any other way. 🙂
