In this episode of our customs brokerage video series, we discussed the requirements for importing goods subject to children's toys product regulations. Compliance with the Children's Product Safety Rule established by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is essential, as it sets mandatory safety standards for toys designed for children aged 12 and under. Importers must test their toys for conformity with these safety standards and maintain records of these tests. A customs bond is also required when importing toys to ensure compliance with customs regulations and to fulfill obligations such as paying duties and taxes. Importers have the choice between a single-entry bond for a specific shipment or a continuous bond for multiple shipments. Additionally, importers must file the Importer Security Filing (ISF) to provide specific information about their shipments to CBP before cargo is loaded onto a vessel. Accurate and timely filing of the ISF is crucial to avoid penalties and delays. Overall, complying with these requirements will ensure the safety of children and help avoid potential issues during the customs clearance process.
