In this episode we are going to answer the question, can your chicken coop double as a safe house?

Hi - We are Douglas and Keri! In May of 2022 we quit our jobs and sold our home in Denver, Colorado to move to our 36 acre off grid homestead property in Cochise County, Arizona. Follow along with us as we build our homestead from scratch!

We're getting very close to finishing our chicken coop. Doug has spent some time the last week adding lime plaster embellishments over all the exterior window openings to act as a drip edge (because we forgot to add drip edge during the build!). We also decided if there is ever a brush fire that comes through, it's the perfect spot for all the animals and us to stay safe.

We installed a nice heavy duty door with a latch that can be secured from the inside or the outside. We built it ourselves because the doors they sell in the hardware stores just didn't seem to match with the theme we had in mind.
