I think the first question we need to ask ourselves is "what is belting?"

In today's singing cultural landscape (there's some big words for you ha ha), belting now is often referred to by the younger generation as "shouting." And in some ways, it actually is. Controlled shouting.

The term actually comes from Broadway and was referred to as "The Broadway Belt".

Simply stated, it just means someone that is projecting loudly and powerfully, as opposed to using softer tones of the voice.

In this video, I discuss how to belt correctly, what it should sound like, and how you can sustain it safely.
