Kevin wishes there was more time for him to investigate his grandfather's research and heritage, before he needs to go to boarding school. He gets onto the roof of the house with his grandfather's old journal, and reads a lot of it. He reads about the mysterious island Trofis, and the magical things going on there and the potential threat to humanity. After that, Kevin feels like he has made up his mind: He cannot go to school now! There is other work to be done. He investigates some more and finds a secret tunnel and shaft under the fireplace of his house. There he finds a letter talking about portals to other dimensions. Meanwhile, his sister Mrs. TV Beeldradio, is having her first day on the television newsdesk. It's a disaster!
