Kevin is reading the letter he found in a secret tunnel under his house. It has just told him of three different interdimensional portals, each with a different feature. He believes the second one is what he needs now, so he walks through it. It's an archway in the rock. Once through it, he ends up on Trofis where he meets up with Patats, a prisoner who is being chased by what appears to be a dinosaurlike monster. Kevin can save Patats, but it seems he cannot remember how he got here himself. That is until he thinks of a submarine. Of course! That's how he would have got here unseen. He relives in his mind how he built the submarine, with which he plans to go back to Trofis and save Patats.
